Names on clothing and lost and found:
We are experiencing many clothing items being turned into lost and found. Please help us cut down on these items by putting your child’s name in their gear. We have lost and found objects on display in the school’s front lobby. After seven days, we will take it into consignment to get a credit to purchase clothing for those in need.
Food and clothing for kids:
With help from the Student and Family Affordability Fund, McKim staff are supporting students with food through expanded offerings in our breakfast and lunch program and winter clothing for those in need. Please get in touch with the office if your child needs any winter clothes or boots, and we will help provide these. Staff are also looking at other innovative ways to support families, and your input is appreciated.
Afterschool care
School District No. 6 is proud to partner with third-party providers to offer after-school care programs in several schools. Please note that the District does NOT operate these programs, so if you are interested in learning more or registering your child in a program, please see below for contact information. The program at McKim is NOT YET operating but is hoping to be open soon. The third-party provider is Summit Community Services Society, and you can contact ed@summitfamily.ca for more information.
Updates are available on the SD6 website under Child Care.
Active program:
A few parents in our school community would like to bring together students who have missed the gymnastics centre. They are wondering if there were other parents with kids in competitive sports (or kids who would like to be involved in fitness) that would support an after-school club that combined multiple sports by having kids meet together for cardio, strength, flexibility and mindfulness training. Possibly near the end of each training session, kids could break off and focus on their specific sports. They would need parents to come forward and run the program. The gym is currently open on Tuesdays after school. Please get in touch with us at the school if you are interested, and I will contact you in touch with the parent catalyzing this initiative.
